LAMPL, JACK W. JR. (20 Mar. 1921 - 8 Mar. 1999) was a philanthropist and financier who headed Sunamerica Corp. Lampl was born in Cleveland to Nell M. (Engle) and Jack W. Lampl, Sr., who directed the Sun Finance and Loan Company. Lampl graduated from Shaker Heights High School and received a degree in fine arts from Harvard University in 1942. That same year he joined his father's Sun Finance and Loan Co. and turned it into a national firm with offices in 16 states. He became president and chairman of its holding company, Sunamerica Corp. Although it was sold in 1975 to Chemical Banking Corp., Lampl remained with Sunamerica until 1986. In retirement he moved to Key Largo, FL.
As a philanthropist, Lampl supported arts, education and civic organizations. He was a trustee of the
Lampl married Carolyn C. Cosel in 1949 and together they had two children: Jack W. III and Joshua C. He died in Key Largo and his remains were cremated.
