MAYFIELD VILLAGE, originally part of Mayfield Twp., incorporated on 21 March 1921. It is located east of Cleveland, bounded by GATES MILLS on the east, MAYFIELD HTS. on the south, HIGHLAND HTS. on the west, and Willoughby Hills in Lake County on the north. It occupies just over 4 sq. mi.

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, incorporated as a village in 1927 and as a city in 1961, occupies 8 sq. mi. It is located 13 miles southwest of Cleveland, bounded by BROOK PARK on the north, PARMA on the east, STRONGSVILLE on the south, and BEREA on the west. Middleburg Hts.

MIDDLEBURG TOWNSHIP was incorporated in 1920 and, after losing significant portions to other SUBURBS, became the village of MIDDLEBURG HTS. in 1927. Occupying 5 square miles, it was situated 13 miles southwest of Cleveland and bordered on the south by the east branch of the Rocky River.

MILL CREEK, a tributary of the CUYAHOGA RIVER that formed part of the southern boundary of old Newburgh Twp., provided the area with the waterpower that made early NEWBURGH more prominent than Cleveland. NORTH ROYALTON was originally part of ROYALTON TWP., one of 18 Cleveland-area townships platted by the Connecticut Land Company following its 1796 acquisition of the Western Reserve from the state of Connecticut. The name pays homage to an early resident’s hometown of Royalton, VT. Initially under the jurisdiction of Brecksville Twp. to the east, Royalton Twp.

PARKVIEW VILLAGE, now the southern portion of FAIRVIEW PARK, occupied a 1 sq. mi. area west of the Rocky River Valley and north of Brookpark Rd. Originally part of Rockport Twp., the area was organized as part of ROCKY RIVER village in 1892.

PARMA is situated southwest of Cleveland, and comprises 19.7 sq.

PARMA HEIGHTS, separated from the original Parma Twp. in 1911 and incorporated as a city in 1959, is located southwest of Cleveland and is bounded by BROOK PARK and MIDDLEBURG HTS. on the west and PARMA on the north, east, and south. It occupies 4.13 sq. mi.

PEPPER PIKE, originally part of Orange Twp., was incorporated as a village on 1 Oct. 1924 and as a city in 1970. Pepper Pike operates under the mayor-council form of government.

RICHMOND HEIGHTS was the last portion of Euclid Twp. to be incorporated as a village in 1917. Originally called Claribel, it became Richmond Hts. in 1918 and incorporated as a city in 1960. The city of 4.7 sq. mi.

RIVEREDGE TOWNSHIP was founded in 1926 by residents in the western section of BROOK PARK Village who were dissatisfied with the results of a bitterly fought local election.

ROCKPORT, one of 19 townships that originally composed Cuyahoga County, was created on 24 Feb. 1819. Made up of 22 1-sq.-mi.

ROCKY RIVER, originally part of ROCKPORT TWP. (created in 1819), formed as a hamlet in 1891, incorporated as a village in 1903, and designated a city in 1930. Prior to 1891, the area was also known as Granger City and Riverbank. Rocky River occupies 4.7 sq. mi. on the Lake Erie shore 9 miles west of Cleveland.

ROYALTON TOWNSHIP, called North Royalton Twp. after 1881, was formed on 27 October 1818 and voted into existence on 6 Nov. 1818, as part of Brecksville Twp. in Twp. 5, Range 13, of the WESTERN RESERVE.
