The Western Reserve Historical Society, Cleveland’s oldest cultural organization serves as the primary content provider for the on-line edition of the Encyclopedia of Cleveland History. Its archival holdings were central to the research conducted during the compilation of the early (1987, 1996) hardcopy editions of the Encyclopedia. They remain so today as the staff of the on-line edition of the Encyclopedia add new articles and update existing content.
Most importantly, many articles have links to the descriptive inventories to archival and photographic collections at the WRHS research library relevant to the article and/or to images at WRHS’s Digital Cleveland Starts Here® repository.
Take the opportunity to visit the WRHS website and explore its collections using the “Research and Collections” tab on the homepage. And, to get the best immersion in Cleveland history, visit the WRHS Cleveland History Center and experience the new interactive exhibit “Cleveland Starts Here®” sponsored by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation.
