What Kind of Writer Am I? Selecting Your First-Year Writing Seminar.

The Academic Inquiry Seminar self-selection process involves reading an article, writing a response to it,  and answering questions related to your reading and writing experiences. This process empowers first-year students to select a seminar that best suits their needs as college-level writers and thinkers. You will be provided with materials to help you make this decision, including descriptions of the courses available to you, a questionnaire about your writing and reading experience, and a writing sample that you self-assess with criteria provided to you. It is important that you complete this in order to be able to register for courses in July.

Some students will take their Academic Inquiry Seminar in the first semester, while others will take it in the second semester. In early July, you will see a hold in your schedule letting you know when you are scheduled to take your Academic Inquiry Seminar. If you are scheduled to take it in your first semester, you will see a 3-credit hold in your schedule (AIQS 850F). If you are scheduled to take your Academic Inquiry Seminar in your second semester, you will see a 0-credit placeholder in your schedule (AIQS 850S). If you are scheduled to take the course in your second semester, you don’t need to do anything. You will be prompted to enroll in the course when registering for courses for your second semester.
