Welcome to this month's edition of the School of Graduate Studies newsletter to faculty advisors! Below you will find information on upcoming deadlines, academic policies, news, and more. Past newsletters will be archived on our website for you to review any time you wish.
Please make sure you and your students are aware of important dates and deadlines. Some may require your review, approval, and signature.
- May 15: University Commencement and School of Graduate Studies Diploma Ceremony
- May 15: Awarding of Spring Degrees
- May 30: Memorial Day University Holiday
- Jun 6: Classes Begin (Summer Semester)
- Jun 10: Waiver of Registration Deadline
- Jun 10: Apply for Summer Graduation Deadline
- Jun 20: Juneteenth University Holiday
Waiver of Registration
Students who were registered for at least one credit hour during the spring semester may be eligible to waive registration for the summer semester, if they submit all final materials, including the Waiver of Registration form, to gradstudies@case.edu by Friday, June 10. Your student must also apply to graduate in SIS. The Waiver of Registration form does not require your signature as advisor but international students must also have it signed by International Student Services (ISS).
Applying for Summer Graduation
If your student has completed or will complete all graduation requirements this semester they will need to apply in SIS for August graduation by Friday, June 10. If they applied to graduate in spring 2022 but did not complete all requirements they must apply again this semester. All graduation materials (for students not qualifying for the Waiver of Registration) must be submitted to gradstudies@case.edu by June 8.
Commencement 2022
Commencement will be held on Sunday, May 15 and the School of Graduate Studies Diploma Ceremony will begin at 2:30pm EDT in the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center. Faculty who have registered to attend or volunteered to marshal have been sent additional information this week. The ceremony will be viewable on the University's Livestream channel S1. John S. Diekhoff Faculty Awards
Congratulations to this year's winners of the prestigious John S. Diekhoff Awards for Faculty Teaching and Mentoring! A student-led committee selected Jessica Kelley from Sociology and Nathanial Schreiner from the School of Nursing to receive the award for graduate teaching with Karen Abbott from Biology and Polyxeni Philippidou from Neurosciences receiving the award for graduating mentoring. All four were honored at the Graduate Student Award Ceremony last month and will be presented the award at during the Grad Studies diploma ceremony at Commencement.
