Welcome New Students!
Please join us in welcoming all the new students who have started this semester! Orientation for new graduate students was held on Friday, January 10. If you see a new face around campus, please say hello and show them the best places to study or find food.
Also, a welcome back to our returning students! We hope you all had a relaxing break. Yeah, it wasn't long enough for us either!
If you weren't able to attend Orientation or wish to review, you can find the slides and handouts here.
Diplomas for Jan 2020 Graduates
You did it! Degrees for students who completed their work during the fall semester were awarded on Friday, January 17. Look for an email with detailed instructions on how you can pick up your diploma at the School of Graduate Studies office (Tomlinson 203). If you cannot pick it up yourself, you may authorize someone to pick up your diploma by emailing their name to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would prefer to have your diploma mailed to you, please complete the Diploma Mailing Information Form (on CampusGroups); a processing fee is required for all diploma mailings. Visit the Diploma section of our Graduation page for additional details and mailing costs.
Last Day to Register for Spring Classes
What's worse than the cold? Forgetting to register for spring classes! The final day to register or make any enrollment changes for Spring Semester is Friday, January 24.
Student Medical Plan: Plan Waiver
Do you have Health Insurance? If you're already covered, make sure to waive your Student Medical Plan before the end of the drop/add period on Friday, January 24. Already waived your Student Medical Plan in the fall? No need to waive it again, the waiver applies to Spring Semester as well!
One-to-One Fitness: Plan Waiver
Is your New Year's resolution to get fit? Then you're in luck! Every graduate student is automatically enrolled as a member of One-to-One Fitness. However, if weight training, pilates and cycling aren't your thing, you also have the option to waive this plan by Friday, January 24 for the spring semester. If you did waive in the fall you must do so again this semester. If you do not have a One-to-One membership, you still have access to all other athletic facilities and gyms on campus.
Apply for May Graduation
You're almost there and it's already time for graduation! The deadline to apply to graduate in May is Friday, February 7. You can find graduation packets with detailed requirements here. Remember, if you plan to attend Commencement, you must also register for the ceremony beginning March 1. Be on the lookout for details on the Commencement Ceremony which will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2020.
Waiver of Registration
Missed last semester's deadline to apply to graduate? If you've completed all graduation requirements, but did not meet the fall graduation deadline, you may be eligible to waive class registration for spring. Here's how:
- Submit all final materials for your degree as listed here, including the Waiver of Registration form (included in the downloadable file)
- International students must have the waiver of registration signed by International Student Services (ISS), located in Tomlinson Hall Room 143.
The waiver of registration deadline is Friday, January 24.
Are you considering a career in teaching?
Graduate students and postdocs can sign up for the non-credit UNIV 401 Advanced Professional Development for University Teaching Seminar to learn effective teaching strategies useful across major disciplines. Starting at the end of January, seminar sessions will meet every Tuesday from 11:30am to 12:45pm or from 1:00 to 2:15pm. Each section is limited to 15 students. Grad students can enroll in SIS; postdocs should email email@example.com. Send any questions to Elise Geither at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We recognize that many CWRU students use names other than their legal names to identify themselves. Check out our Preferred Name policy to see how you can change your preferred name on rosters and in SIS by filling out the Preferred Name Form. Please note that adding a preferred name is different than a Name Change Request, which requires legal documentation and shows up on all official university documents.
