Policy Statement

CWRU believes a successful employment relationship is a shared responsibility of the employer and employee, and the university promotes on-going communications which include periodic campus-wide notices, voice mail, electronic mail, the daily, handbooks, brochures, policies, and procedures. A hallmark of the university's commitment to fair and equitable treatment is the university's policy of dealing directly with employees without the presence of external representatives.

At the same time, the university expects employees understand their primary role on campus is to perform their job to the best of their ability and to provide service to the university's mission of excellence in education and research. Mutual commitment and responsibility will serve the best interests of both the university and its employees. To demonstrate its sense of community, the university will:

  • Foster and preserve open communications
  • Offer opportunities to develop new ideas and projects
  • Promote university standards of which all employees can be proud
  • Treat all members of the university community fairly, equitably, and courteously
  • Provide employees with the resources and training to maximize their productivity, professional development, and health
  • Set aggressive but achievable goals
  • Serve employees through a talented team of leaders
  • Provide employees with means to discuss university policy and practices
  • Solicit employee input as appropriate on a variety of issues
  • Develop appreciative leadership campus-wide
  • Promote an inclusive environment

As members of the university community, employees will:

  • Treat and speak to all members of the community fairly, equitably, and courteously
  • Value the different perspectives of team members, departments, and support groups
  • Practice individual leadership to foster positive relationships among diverse cultures
  • Emphasize a service orientation throughout the university community
  • Utilize the resources and training provided to maximize productivity and health or wellness
  • Promote high standards of performance in themselves and among their colleagues
  • Conduct themselves in a professional and productive manner
  • Comply with all university policies and procedures
  • Recognize the university's proprietary interest in all work, research, materials, projects, and information, where appropriate
  • Raise issues of ethics, conflict, and concern with the proper personnel, as necessary
