Guidelines (benchmarks) for the Duties and Responsibilities of Various Research Nurse Levels

161061 Research Nurse 1 (exempt salary grade 13, working 40-hour week)

  • Work under general supervision
  • Provide clinical and administrative nursing support for research trials, studies and/or projects
  • Administer and monitor treatment or research protocols
  • Instruct and counsel patients in research procedures
  • Administer treatment procedures
  • Monitor patients during procedures
  • Provide patient education related to study
  • Collect, record and analyze data
  • Participate in research team meetings RN license in state of Ohio
  • Bachelor's degree and 0 years of experience OR Associate's degree and 4 years of experience OR High school and 8 years of experience

161062 Research Nurse 2 (exempt salary grade 15, working 40-hour week)

  • Perform duties of Research Nurse 1 and in addition:
  • Work under limited supervision
  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate clinical research trials, studies and/or projects
  • Provide direction in the development of research protocol
  • Develop and conduct patient and family education
  • Oversee financial accounts to ensure operations remain within budget
  • Assist in developing data collection systems and compiles reports
  • Assist in writing research grants, publications, study materials, etc.
  • Provide direction and may supervise Research Nurse 1s or other support staff
  • RN license in state of Ohio
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience OR Associate's degree and 7 years of experience OR High school and 11 years of experience

161063 Research Nurse 3 (exempt salary grade 17, working 40-hour week)

  • Perform duties of Research Nurse 2 and in addition:
  • Work with a high degree of independence and under general direction
  • Coordinator of multi-center trial study
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary researchers to establish research programs that integrate new advances in clinical trials management
  • Provide leadership and expertise in identifying and writing research grants, publications, study materials, etc.
  • Ensure sites fully understand and comply with study protocol and provides training of site coordinators
  • Lead or chair committees or task forces to address and resolve significant operational issues
  • Supervise Research Nurse 2s and other support staff
  • RN license in state of Ohio
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience OR Associate's degree and 9 years of experience
