Lew Winarsky lives in Montgomery County, Maryland, with his wife, Susan.
He is managing partner for Sky Properties LLC, which owns and manages residential properties in Montgomery County.
A 1972 graduate of the School of Law, he was an editor of the CWRU Journal of International Law. Lew attended and received his BA from Beloit College (1969) in Beloit, Wisconsin, during which time he also attended Robert College, Istanbul, Turkey.
He is admitted to the practice of law in Maryland, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Ohio, the Supreme Court of the United States and related Federal District courts.
Winarsky retired as legal counsel to WGL Holdings in Washington, D.C. WGL is NYSE listed and known as the gas public utility serving the greater Washington, D.C., area. Prior to WGL, Winarsky served as an administrative judge with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio; counsel to the Consumer's Counsel, State of Ohio (representing the interests of residential utility consumers before the Ohio Public Utilities Commission), assistant attorney general, State of Ohio (Consumer Frauds Section and as staff member to the Attorney General’s Committee examining juvenile justice reform).
Winarsky is a member of the Legacy Leadership Institute on Public Policy, School of Public Health, University of Maryland, College Park. He is an active participant in the Montgomery County Democratic Party. He was a board member of the non-profit District of Columbia Apartment Improvement Project and Chair of its project review committee. The project preserved and developed moderate income housing in the district. He has also testified regarding housing policy in Montgomery County and related matters.
Winarsky served on the board of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, a professional company of dance artists that creates and performs. Liz Lerman is a MacArthur Fellow.
He was formerly a board member of Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center, Silver Spring, and the Fessenden Chamber Music Ensemble.
