SCHOOL OF LAW DEAN SEARCH

Letter from the Provost and President

To the Case Western Reserve University Community:

We write today to announce the launch of a new webpage for the university’s search for a dean for the School of Law. On it you will find a position description, information about the law school, a list of search committee members, and links individuals can use to inquire about the position or nominate others.

Jerry Goldberg, Dean of the School of Dental Medicine, is chair of the search committee. Interim Provost of the University in 2007-2008, Dr. Goldberg has been a member of the dental school’s faculty since 1974 and dean since 1997. In 2007-2008 he served as Interim Provost for the University, a role that allowed him to learn more about the School of Law and its immense potential.

Because of the importance we place on the School of Law and its leadership, we retained the Spencer Stuart search firm to work with us in this effort. The firm is nationally recognized, and its consultants ably assisted with our university’s most recent searches for president, provost and chief financial officer. Spencer Stuart already is identifying and recruiting potential candidates for the dean’s position, while the committee has held four meetings with members of the law school community to identify key skills and experience required at this stage in the school’s history. The search committee will provide regular updates regarding the process on its webpage and in communications with constituents at the law school. That said, committee members and the consultants will maintain absolute confidentiality regarding candidates until such time as finalists agree to participate in a more public stage of the process.

If you have any questions or comments about the search process, please email deansearchlawschool@case.edu. To inquire about the position or nominate candidates, please email cwrulawdean@spencerstuart.com.

Sincerely,

W.A. “Bud” Baeslack III
Provost

Barbara R. Snyder
President
