Hello from Kelvin Smith Library! The semester is well underway, and now is a good time to start thinking about how to utilize your resources in regards to your research. Whether you are in the brainstorming stage, the investigative stage, or if you are on your way to producing a finished paper, we are happy to help. Below are several tips for how to engage with our resources effectively.

First stop: Visit the library’s homepage at case.edu/library. There you can search for materials using the Discovery bar or search using the Catalog linked directly below the Discovery bar.

OhioLINK to the Rescue: KSL is part of a consortium of academic libraries throughout the state of Ohio called OhioLINK. You can order a book through OhioLINK, and it will be sent from its home institution to KSL (usually within 5-7 business days) for you to pick up and check out.

Beyond Google Scholar: KSL offers many helpful databases to find journal articles, primary sources, and more. You can access a full list of our databases by clicking on the Databases link under the Discovery bar on the library’s homepage.

Tap into your Creativity: Wading through sources and evidence? Try drawing a concept map to connect ideas visually. Several examples can be found on the internet. Your map can be personalized to your own style and whatever you are working on. Interested in hearing more? Send me an email at erin.r.smith@case.edu

We are here for You: Our mission is to help you with whatever it is you are working on! Check in with your Personal Librarians or a Research Services Librarian at any time. Research Services Librarians have dedicated subject areas from Art to Sociology to Engineering and everything in between. Go to our Research Guides homepage at researchguides.case.edu and you can find the Research Librarian associated with a given subject.

In short: Take advantage of the wide array of resources available to you at KSL and your other campus libraries, and don’t hesitate to call on us at any time! If you have any questions, you can contact us at asksl@case.edu or feel free to reach out to a librarian directly.
