Gila Silverman is the Director of Jewish Lifelong Learning at the Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, Case Western Reserve University. She holds a BA in Anthropology from Vassar College, a Masters in Public Health and a PhD in Sociocultural and Medical Anthropology, both from the University of Arizona. She also completed a certificate in Congregational Health Ministry at Andover Newton Theological School, and the training program for educators with the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. Dr. Silverman is a cultural anthropologist, whose research has explored intersections of Judaism and healing, Jewish mourning and end-of-life care, American Jewish identity, the impact of gender on careers in Jewish Studies and Israel Studies, and American Jewish environmentalism. Her writings have appeared in Contemporary Jewry, Culture and Religion, Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, Death Studies, theForward.com, the Arizona Jewish Post, Harmony Magazine, and Fresh Ideas: The HBI Blog.
