July,1914: One hundred years of European peace, ancient empires ruled, unbridled progress - and all shattered by war on an industrial scale.  World War I changed the world forever.  Barbara Tuchman’s classic book masterfully lays out the European world, the rivalries among the great powers, and the events leading up to the outbreak of World War I.  From an assassination of the Austrian heir, Europe careened toward catastrophe. The war that would be “over by Christmas (1914)”, killed 20 million people by 1918.  In this, the 100th anniversary of the Versailles peace treaty, we’ll do an overview of the war itself.
