The lure of study in Europe was an important step for some of our greatest artists to broaden their training. We will look at a number of artists who left the US for various reasons and flourished by exposure to the wonderful academies, museums, and opportunities afforded them on the European continent. It was only after World War II that American art drew much attention and praise. This course will show how select American expatriates developed prior to this era.
