The Best American Short Stories, published annually since 1915, is an anthology edited by a different distinguished American author every year. This author is asked to choose their favorite 20 short stories out of the 100+ published in literary magazine and major periodicals during the preceding year, and contribute an introduction to the anthology. This year’s guest editor is Andrew Sean Greer, author of Less and The Confessions of Max Tivoli. We will read and discuss the stories in the 2022 edition with the aim of discovering what they have in common and what they say about life in America in the 21st century. We’ll also debate what “the best” really means!
