A study of the “Julio-Claudians,” the first four Roman Emperors (Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero) based on the Annals of Tacitus, generally recognized as Rome’s greatest historian, and the biographies of Suetonius.
Read: Any translation of Tacitus’ Annals and Suetonius’ Lives of Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero will do (There are complete translations available for free online). Preferred (but not required), Tacitus, The Annals, translated by J.C. Yardley, Oxford University Press; Suetonius, The Twelve Caesars, translated by Robert Graves, Penguin Books.
