During the past two decades, there has been an explosion of interest in Jane Austen, resulting in films, TV shows, Internet videos, and more. Adaptations range from the uber-faithful (e.g., the 1995 Pride and Pejudice with the memorable Colin Firth as Darcy) to the loosely-based (e.g., Bridget Jones’s Diary.) Revisit the engaging source material as we discuss four Austen novels, including historical and cultural contexts for these classic works of British literature.

Books: Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, and Persuasion (books will be read and discussed in this order)
