This course will begin with a review of basic economic concepts and then apply this foundation to a discussion of the economic challenges facing the nation including issues at the forefront of the 2020 presidential debate – the growing financial gap between the wealthy and others, the impact of globalization and technology, tariffs and international trade, and health care. Starting with a discussion of the views of major economic thinkers, we will then discuss concepts that are critical to an understanding of basic economics. Finally, we will address each of our major national economic challenges in the context of this economic foundation and explore the issues they represent and potential solutions.
