It seems that Americans have always searched for utopia, and some have made the attempt to establish utopian societies. This course will trace the idea of utopia and the rise and fall of some of the more notable America utopian communities: The Ephrata Cloister, the Shakers, New Harmony, the Oneida community, the Fourierists, the Amana Colonies, and some examples from Ohio.
