With the United States Supreme Court set to hear the case of Dodd v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the future of Roe v Wade is in serious doubt. Dodd involves a Mississippi law that outlaws abortion after 15 weeks with some exceptions – and is a direct challenge to Roe’s viability standard. In January 1973, Watergate, Roe v Wade, Vietnam, and the Month That Changed America Forever, author James Robenalt explored the origins of Roe and the untold story of how law clerks helped fashion the trimester/viability tests. This lecture will look at the history of Roe and the future for reproductive rights.
