Historian Gillian Weiss will discuss her new interdisciplinary book, co-authored with New York University art historian Meredith Martin, The Sun King at Sea: Maritime Art and Galley Slavery in Louis XIV’s France. It examines the presence and portrayal of galley slaves, especially enslaved Muslims, during the reign of France’s King Louis XIV (1660-1715).
