Show the Trapped Lateral Ventricle                                Show the Contrast Enhancement of the Infection

Toxoplasmosis Brain Abscess: Axial CT scans with contrast. Note the ring enhancing lesion in the region of the right anterior thalamus. Also note that the right lateral ventricle is trapped at the foramen of Monro, resulting in ipsilateral dilatation of the anterior and temporal horns of the lateral ventricle.

Toxoplasma gondii is often seen as an opportunistic infection in patients with AIDS and other immunocompromised individuals. The lesions are often located deep in the basal ganglia and thalamus. Note, however, that this CT scan appearance is also consistent with tumor and other infectious etiologies.
