Juneteenth At A Glance!
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It holds a special significance as it marks the day, June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced to the enslaved African Americans that the Civil War had ended and they were finally free. This historic event occurred more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Since then, June 19 has been celebrated as America's second Independence Day and serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for racial equality and justice.
