Match Day 2020

Match Day 2020 was like no other. With the ever-changing precautions to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, this year’s celebration was a livestream broadcast from Dean Davis and leadership from the School of Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine to our Match Day students. Then at high noon, each student was emailed their residency match – and celebrated remotely with friends and family.

One thing that did not change was that the school had yet another tremendous match! This year's match results are a testament to the excellence and hard work of our students and speak to the strength of our curriculum.

As in years past, our 228 students who have matched were chosen by top programs throughout the United States. Forty-one percent of the class matched to residencies at top-ranked hospitals, according to 2019-2020 Best Hospitals Honor Roll rankings, such as: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Massachusetts General, UCSF Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian, UCLA Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial.

Top residency choices include internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery and obstetrics-gynecology.

Twenty-seven percent of the class will go into primary care specialties; sixteen percent of the graduates will continue serving the Cleveland community through residencies at University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth Medical Center; and nineteen percent will remain in Ohio.

Congratulations to this year’s Match Day students! All the best to each of you as you move into your residency and beyond!
