The University is offering staff the opportunity to address family care needs or other personal concerns by offering Convenience Leaves and Reduced Work Hours through December 31, 2020. Current benefit status will be maintained for employees who are approved to take a COVID-19-related convenience leave or temporary reduction in hours.

A convenience leave is a voluntary leave of absence; all leaves require acknowledgement, and approval if for non-medical reasons, by the employee's supervisor.  Staff who would like to take a voluntary convenience leave should complete the Leave of Absence Form. Select Convenience Leave under Other Leaves and indicate "COVID-19" on the form. Completed forms should be submitted to both SOM-COVIDWorkSchedules@case.edu and Leaves@case.edu.

Employees may request to temporarily reduce their hours to a minimum of 18.75 hrs/week for non-exempt staff and 20 hrs/week for exempt staff. Reduction of work hours requires supervisor approval. Staff who would like to voluntarily reduce their hours for a specified period of time should complete the COVID-19 Reduction of Work Hours Form. Completed forms should be submitted to both SOM-COVIDWorkSchedules@case.edu and HRRecords@case.edu

Faculty Affairs

The School of Medicine's Faculty Affairs and Human Resources team represents the School of Medicine's Dean's office, linking the medical school's faculty and staff with the central university.

Faculty Affairs assists departments with managing faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes. We administer the department chair's annual review of their department's faculty. Faculty Affairs staffs the Faculty Council, supports its committees, and conducts faculty elections. We counsel individual faculty and chairs on CWRU and School of Medicine policies and procedures, maintain the faculty database, and work with the SOM Finance Office and University Records to process faculty and staff CWRU payroll entries and changes.

Human Resources

Human Resources office works directly with SOM staff, faculty, department chairs, and administrators on a broad range of Human Resources matters, serving as liaison to the university's central Human Resources. We assist with the process for new staff hires, help manage annual appointments, work with departments to set staff salaries, and process employee relations matters. We manage appointments, reappointments, and annual evaluations for Research Associates and Senior Research Associates. The HR office serves as the clearinghouse for visa applications for SOM faculty and staff.
