I was born in Esmeraldas, Ecuador and grew up in northwest Indiana. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Indiana University Northwest, and during my time there I studied the link between stress and various neuroendocrine factors under the mentorship of Dr. Maureen Rutherford. As a student, I took a lot of enjoyment in my courses and being able to share that knowledge with others. I always remember having an interest in science- I wanted to be a doctor-astronaut when I was little, and I am sure I drove my parents crazy with the amount of times I wanted to visit the science museum in Chicago, but my undergraduate experiences are what truly led me to discover my passion and pursue a career in research. Plus, a scientist is a life-long learner, and I love the challenges of learning something new! I am currently a PREP Scholar, and I want to pursue a graduate degree in either pharmacology or biochemistry.
