The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine curriculum has long been recognized and praised for its innovative approach. Beginning with the Flexner Report in 1909 and continuing in the 1950s, the School of Medicine was the first to introduce the organ systems approach to teaching the basic sciences. In 2006, the School of Medicine launched the Western Reserve2 Curriculum (WR2) to develop a learner-centered and self-directed curriculum framework and implement dynamic small group learning teams. Students learn in an environment that fosters scientific inquiry and excitement.
The Curriculum integrates basic, clinical and health systems science to prepare students for the ongoing practice of evidence-based medicine.
Formal survey periods are offered where students have the ability to give feedback on the blocks, the IQ faculty, and the teaching faculty involved.
