Case Western Reserve University Master of Science in Anesthesia Program maintains key partnerships with clinical and academic partners in each location’s region and across the country.
Students also rotate at a number of regional teaching hospitals in the Washington metropolitan area and more broadly. Some of our key academic medical center affiliates are highlighted below.
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital
Founded in 1898 to promote health through education, research, and patient care, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is one of the largest healthcare delivery networks in the area. For the last three years, MedStar Georgetown has been ranked the number one hospital in the Washington region by U.S. News & World Report.
Today, the hospital manages 609 beds, 1,300 physicians, and the only transplant program in the nation’s capital.
In addition to the transplant program, the hospital is home to the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is a designated comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute. The center is the only one in the District of Columbia and one of only 47 in the United States. The hospital’s cancer treatment programs and its multidisciplinary approach to treatment is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
George Washington University Hospital
George Washington University Hospital is a multi-disciplinary, tertiary care hospital. Since July 1997, GW Hospital has been jointly owned and operated by a partnership between George Washington University and a subsidiary of Universal Health Services Inc., a King of Prussia, PA-based company that is one of the nation’s largest healthcare management companies.
GW Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest quality healthcare, advanced technology, and world class service to our patients in an academic medical center dedicated to education and research.
The hospital is comprised of more than 750 physicians covering 51 specialty and subspecialty areas. Physicians at GW hospital are known for their clinical expertise in cancer care, cardiac surgery, emergency medicine, minimally invasive surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, robotic surgery, and Women’s Services, include breast care services, obstetrics and gynecology, and pelvic disorders.
University of Utah Hospital
University of Utah Hospital is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and is one of five hospitals within the University of Utah Health system. The system also maintains 12 neighborhood health centers and several specialty centers, and is comprised of over 1,000 physicians practicing over 200 medical specialties and 8,000 staff members.
For the past five years, University of Utah Hospital has been ranked the number one hospital in Utah and in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The university’s Huntsman Cancer Institute and its Ear, Nose, and Throat specialty were also ranked in the top 50 in their respective categories nationwide.
The Christ Hospital
For over 125 years, The Christ Hospital has provided exceptional care to patients from its main campus in Mount Auburn, which is located just north of Downtown Cincinnati.
MSA students from our Washington location can complete a cardiac rotation at Christ during their second year, and the hospital is well-known for its cardiovascular care. Additionally, the non-profit acute care facility is esteemed for several services, including orthopedic and spine treatment, women’s health, major surgery, cancer, behavioral medicine, orthopedics, emergency care, and kidney transplant.
The Christ Hospital is part of a regional system, known as The Christ Hospital Health Network, that is comprised of more than 100 locations in the Greater Cincinnati area. The system has repeatedly been recognized as one of the nation’s top hospitals be U.S. News & World Report, and The Christ Hospital specifically has been named Cincinnati’s Most Preferred Hospital for 21 consecutive years by National Research Corporation.
VA Palo Alto Healthcare System
The Veteran Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare System in California consists of three inpatient facilities located in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore as well as seven outpatient clinics in San Jose, Fremont, Capitola, Monterey, Stockton, Modesto, and Sonora.
The system is known for providing some of the world’s finest medical care and cutting-edge technology to more than 67,000 enrolled U.S. veterans. Additionally, it is a teaching hospital staffed by Stanford University physicians and CWRU MSA students are trained by Stanford-appointed physician anesthesiologists.
The VA Palo Alto provides comprehensive healthcare and that maintains over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and a homeless domiciliary. The system is home to a variety of regional treatment centers, most notably a Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center; Spinal Cord Injury Center; the Western Blind Rehabilitation Center; a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center; a Homeless Veterans Rehabilitation Program; and the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
While certified anesthesiologist assistants cannot currently practice in California specifically, they are able to practice nationwide within the Veterans Affair network. This clinical rotation provide MSA students the opportunity to learn more about the veteran population and their specific healthcare needs.
