The Department of Neurological Surgery has pioneered a surgical skills laboratory for teaching and simulation of operative cases. Medical students and residents are taught the nuances of surgical approaches, technique, and microsurgical skills necessary to be successful in practice.
Dr. Nicholas Bambakidis directs the Neurosurgical Clinical Skills Laboratory. An annual curriculum is designed to expose residents and medical students twice monthly to complex skull base approaches, spinal procedures, and new cutting edge microsurgical techniques. Didactic lectures are followed by hands-on cadaveric exposures in small groups. Faculty and senior resident guidance is present at each laboratory session.
