Vinicius G. Suzart, B. Sc.
Research Assistant 1
Department of Pathology, School of Medicine
Vinicius Suzart obtained a B. Sc. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) - Brazil. During his undergraduate, he studied the interactions of HIV-1 transcripts with host factors at the Virology Department. Later, he investigated the immunological response against ZIKV infection in mice models at the Immunology Department of UFRJ, where he collaborated on the discovery of the critical role of CD4+ T cells, IFNg and neutralizing antibodies on protecting mice from neurological damage. He joined the Sekaly Lab in April 2019.
Vinicius continues to investigate HIV-1 infection and the host's immunological response against the virus. His current research interests include: studying cell-based antiviral therapies; comprehending the interaction of microbiome products with the host immune system and this relationship with HIV-1 infection and progression to AIDS. Concomitantly, he initiated working on cancer research and CAR T cell therapy.
