Each year, MPH program students elect representatives from among their peers to serve in the program’s leadership and governance. Students can be nominated by faculty, staff, or their fellow students and must be in good standing with the MPH program. Student representatives are valuable members of the MPH program management team and curriculum committee and serve as liaisons with the student body.

Mallory Walsh
My name is Mallory Walsh, and I am currently a second-year CWRU Master of Public Health (MPH) candidate, with a concentration in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 2021 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. I have spent the last year working as a Graduate Research Assistant focusing on adolescent health at the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods. In this role, I help distribute the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among middle and high schools in Cuyahoga County. I also help with analyzing data from survey results and creating materials to present survey content.
This summer, I have been creating resource sheets for my practicum that present some key findings from the survey, which will be disseminated among parents. I will be continuing my youth-focused work at the Prevention Research Center and starting my capstone this fall. I will also be a Teaching Assistant for the Health Education, Communication, and Advocacy course. I aspire to pursue a career post-graduation that is grounded in youth-focused advocacy and health education or promotion.
Nathan Ruhde
I graduated with my undergraduate degree last spring from CWRU, where I majored in Economics and International Studies (where I concentrated on Global Health in the Middle East and North Africa). I am now in my second year of the MPH program, where I am concentrating on Health Policy and Management. My passion lies in helping others better understand the issues and people they care about most.
To date, I have done this through multiple research positions, both on the CoronaNet Research Project (where I helped document government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic) and through my MPH practicum at the Swetland Center at CWRU, where I coded data about people's experiences with food pantries in the Cleveland area. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy cooking, sudoku, reading memoirs/autobiographies, and exploring Cleveland.
C.J. Hill
I'm CJ Hill and I am a second year MPH student with a Health Policy and Management concentration. I graduated in May 2022 with my BA in Biology from CWRU. Following graduation, I will be attending law school to pursue a career in health law and policy. I have served as a TA for Introduction to Health Policy and Management, and I will be the TA for Introduction to Health Behavior this fall. My practicum experience was working as a research assistant for the Heart Healthy Ohio Initiative, and my capstone will focus on reducing the effects of heat illness.
Outside of the classroom, I am an ambassador for ASPPH's This is Public Health Program. I also am a member of the CWRU Spartan Dance Team.
Avantika Bhaduri
My name is Avantika Bhaduri and I am a second-year MPH student with a Health Promotion and Disease Prevention concentration on the Intensive Research Pathway. I graduated in 2022 with my BA in Medical Anthropology from CWRU.
For my practicum, I worked as a research assistant at the UH Rainbow Center for Child Health and Policy on two projects: one was a collaboration with the Midtown Community Advisory Board and the other was the Promoting Pediatric Primary Prevention (P4) Challenge funded by HRSA. My capstone will focus on opioid awareness.
Following graduation, I hope to further my learning and/or pursue a job related to my interests in multidisciplinary healthcare and emergency medical services.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy finding new places to eat with my friends and reading books. Currently, I am reading and very intrigued by Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens and if you are looking for a hidden gem near campus, I highly recommend checking out Cilantro Taqueria.
