Interventional Simulation Lab

The Department of Radiology has developed and designed a curriculum for one of the world’s first simulation labs dedicated to interventional radiology. With our state of the art VIST simulator, our residents can perfect their endovascular skills on their own time before even rotating through the interventional radiology division. This allows residents to rapidly advance their technical skills and improves patient care. Residents are able to practice many technical procedural skills including inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement and retrieval, uterine artery embolization, peripheral vascular disease angioplasty and stent placement, renal artery stent placement, and neuro-interventional skills.

Additionally, our simulation lab is equipped with multiple body imaging phantoms that are ultrasound, CT, and MRI compatible. Using these devices, residents perfect their procedural skills in image-guided biopsies and sampling.

This novel approach to interventional radiology education has resulted in multiple research opportunities including many oral presentations at international radiology society meetings. We are continuing to expand our technology and curriculum offerings in this dedicated interventional radiology simulation lab.
