ACTIVE RESEARCH

Cardiovascular Interventional MRI

Investigation of new MR methods and technologies to permit MR image guided assessment and treatment of cardio- and cerebrovascular disease. Involves both imaging hardware and acquisition methods.

Interventional MRI Catheter Design

Design, build and test an intravascular catheter that includes electronics and other instrumentation to permit automatic guidance of an imaging and tracking catheter under MRI (and under some conditions fluoroscopy). Image objectives are improvements over IVUS, spatial resolution of 40 microns, and acquisition times of less than 4 seconds.

Center Director- Case Center for Imaging Research

Responsible for coordinating multiple faculty developing imaging agents as beacons for genetic and cellular events associated with various cancers and various neurologic diseases. Research involves transgenic animal models, biochemistry, cell culture, and variety of pre-clinical and clinical imaging technologies including reporter genes, MRI, PET and SPECT imaging.

POTENTIAL IMPACT

Our approach will yield insight into a host of biologically relevant problems ranging from enzyme-substrate interactions to design and synthesis of novel biomaterials to whole tissue mechanics.
