ACTIVE RESEARCH
Surface and Colloid Physical Chemistry: Interfacial Transport
Mass, momentum, and energy transport are fundamental to understanding the dynamics of diverse interfacial systems and are studied in the context of spread monolayers including bioactive materials. Topics includes wetting phenomena. Theory and simulation of surface and colloid phenomena including curvature effects. |
|
Surface Physical Chemistry: Surface Light Scattering Spectroscopy
Every surface is subject to nm-amplitude spectrum of thermal fluctuations, which are measured quantitatively by Laser methods and interpreted by interfacial transport theory via a response function formalism.
Surface Physical and Colloid Chemistry of Fuel Cell Systems
The focus is on the colloid chemistry of catalyst nanoparticles, their adsorption (adhesion) on carbon nanoparticles, reaction dynamics and the structure, dynamics and function of the assembly including the ionomer component. Wetting phenomena.
POTENTIAL IMPACT
The function of every interfacial system, including biological, resolves into questions of Structure, Dynamics and Function of nano-scale regions. Here the questions are integrated and applied to both fundamentals involving theory and to applied practical problems such as catalyst durability in fuel cell systems, and the screening of bioactive molecules that may be effective drugs.
