The Administrative Core under the direction of Dr. Shirley Moore provides the operational and financial oversight of the SMART Center and develops mechanisms to facilitate the interaction among the Cores and other faculty and centers within and outside the university. The Administrative Core oversees the Executive Committee and the External Advisory Committee. It provides strategic administrative oversight of the SMART Center, the other Cores, and SMART Center-sponsored studies.
The mission of the Pilot Projects Core is to support the development, implementation and dissemination of self-management intervention research examining the brain-behavior connections underpinning effective self-management behavior. The Pilot Study Core, led by Dr. Carol Musil, has the responsibility to advance the science of self-management.
The Neuroscience Core provides SMART Center investigators with the conceptual expertise regarding neurobiology and consultation in the selection of appropriate neuroscience-based technologies to measure brain activity associated with self-management behaviors. The Neuroscience Core led by director, Dr. Michael Decker, offers training for SMART Center investigators in the application of neuroscience technologies used in their research as well as analyses and interpretation of data generated.
The goal of the FIND Lab is to promote the Full INclusion of Persons with Disabilities in mainstream research. The FIND lab supports researchers to design studies that include persons with a wide range of differences and disabilities. Consultation services and equipment rental are available to investigators to assist them to include persons with sensory and motor impairment in maintenance research studies. The FIND lab assists investigators in deciding materials to include persons with disabilities at all stages of the research process, including recruitment, intervention, delivery, measurement and data collection methods.
