Current Legacy Fellows

While nurses improve the lives of individual patients and their families as part of the healthcare system, nurse scientists impact entire patient populations. They redefine practices and policies across healthcare systems and educate the next generation of nurse leaders.

Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing seeks to honor this rich history through its Legacy Fellows, which are an elite group of high achieving individuals as demonstrated by their academic performance, research interests, and professional leadership.

Research Areas: Data Science and Family/Community Care

Why did you choose CWRU?

Pursuing a PhD in nursing has been a dream of mine for a long time. When the time finally came in 2019 to apply, I met with a few current FPB faculty and was so impressed!

With some experience in mixed methods research already, I was especially interested in building new skills in data science, and FPB has some great offerings and opportunities in this space.

Interdisciplinary enrichment is plentiful here as well - for me, that has meant getting involved with the Schubert Center for Child Studies and connecting with faculty in other departments working in early intervention, including speech-language pathology and social work clinician researchers.

Legacy Fellow: Jessica McCullough

Jessica McCullough

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Education: University of Cincinnati, MSN; University of Akron, BSN

Research Area: Substance abuse, mental health, comorbidities and disparities

Research Topic: Comorbid opioid use disorder and anxiety treatment outcomes

Advisor: Dr. Diana Morris

Why did you choose CWRU?

I chose to attend CWRU because of the reputation of excellence and vast network of experienced nurse scientists. I also wanted to stay close to home, since I am a Clevelander, and work with community organizations in mental health and substance abuse disparities. Cleveland has a vast network of substance abuse providers and treatment agencies. I knew that CWRU would prepare me to be a leading nurse scientist.
