Loan Repayment Programs
Primary care health professionals who are providing full-time clinical services in a public or non-profit facility located in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area are eligible for State Loan Repayment Programs. The Ohio Department of Health under the Primary Care Office works in coordination of the National Health Service Corp programs for Ohio as well as the state workforce programs. Email PCRH@odh.ohio.gov or call 614.644.8508 for more information.
The National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP) offers primary care medical, dental and mental and behavioral health providers the opportunity to have their student loans repaid, while earning a competitive salary, in exchange for providing health care in urban, rural or frontier communities with limited access to care. Visit NHSC.hrsa.gov and click on “loan repayment” for more information or to apply.
The NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program, formerly the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program, helps alleviate the shortage of nurses across the country. It offers loan repayment assistance to registered nurses and advanced practice nurses, such as nurse practitioners, working at Critical Shortage Facilities and nurse faculty employed at accredited schools of nursing. Program participants receive up to 60 percent of their qualifying student loans in exchange for a two-year service commitment—and an additional 25 percent of their original loan balance for an optional third year. See The Nurse Corps Loan Repayment FAQs Page to learn more.
Hospital Tuition Assistance
Many hospitals offer tuition assistance to advance nursing students. Each hospital administers it own program. The FPB School of Nursing is most familiar with the programs offered through University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic. Assistance ranges from $7,500 to $10,000 per academic year along with a one- to two-year commitment from the student to work for the hospital after completing their nursing degree.
Employers of health care professionals often offer tuition assistance to their employees. Check with your employer for more information. Student employment is available at the FPB School of Nursing and other campus locations. Part-time employment is also available at local hospitals and other health care agencies.
