Global experience with minimal time commitment
Students looking for a more global educational experience but who can't manage a significant amount of time away from campus can still expand their educational and cultural horizons through several CWRU programs that take place during semester breaks. Each of these programs take place during the week of spring break or for a week in May, days after the end of spring semester.
During this time, CWRU will host 15 educational programs in 9 countries, spanning 4 continents and covering issues ranging from child welfare in Guatemala to medical ethics in France and institutional development in Ghana.
Among them are three service trips through the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership that will take teams of students to study mass incarceration in Southeast Michigan; immigration and integration in Columbus, Ohio; and "voluntourism" in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Students participating in these Alternative Breaks engage in projects with nonprofit organizations and community members in different cities and countries.
Interested students can apply for scholarships to take part in these trips. Scholarship applications are due Dec. 9. Program applications are due Feb. 1.
