Community Commitment

The university community has joined together to create a pledge to the community amid COVID-19.

A defining aspect of being a CWRU Spartan has always meant caring for others. Now, as the CWRU community continues to deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I recognize that I have an important responsibility in keeping my fellow students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community members safe by acting intentionally and diligently to limit the spread of COVID-19.

I commit to:

1. Think for the good of my neighbor

  • Maintain at least 6 ft. of physical distancing.
  • Wear appropriate face covering over my mouth and nose.
  • Stay home if I feel ill or have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone who is ill or has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Remember that I share this campus with my peers and other members of the CWRU community, some of whom may be at risk for serious complications.

2. Think for the good of my health

  • Complete the university’s daily self-evaluation for symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Wash my hands regularly using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3. Think for the good of my community

  • Use provided cleaning materials to sanitize common surfaces when I am leaving a space.
  • Refrain from engaging in any non-essential travel outside of the Cleveland area, or hosting non-essential visitors (including overnight) on campus.
  • Organize and attend social, campus and recreational events and activities in a manner consistent with the health and safety guidelines set forth by the University and CDC.
  • Participate in testing and contact tracing to preserve the wellness of the community.

I understand COVID-19 is a highly contagious virus and taking steps to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections is a shared responsibility. I know it is possible to develop and contract COVID-19 even if I follow all the safety precautions, and that I can never be completely shielded from all risk of illness caused by COVID-19 or other infections. I commit to take responsibility for my own health and help stop the spread of COVID-19, thereby doing my part to create a community where all students, staff, and faculty can assemble, learn, and live together.
