Andrea G. Porter is the Assistant Dean of Student Services and a Clinical Instructor at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. She earned a Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) from the Mandel School. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers and is an Ohio Licensed Independent Social Worker – Supervision (LISW-S). She has extensive experience in public child welfare practice and has served in many capacities, i.e., administration, management, clinical supervision, staff training, organizational development and evaluation, and direct practice. She has also done work in crisis intervention, individual and family counseling, program development and evaluation, and child advocacy.

Mrs Porter has taught social work courses on the undergraduate and graduate level at Cleveland State University, the University of Akron and the Mandel School, Case Western Reserve University. She served as Campus Coordinator for the University Partnership Program at Cleveland State and the University of Akron to recruit and educate social work students interested in a career in child welfare prior to coming to the Mandel School. She is a certified trainer for the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program and a certified Adoption Assessor.

She began her career at the Mandel School as a Field Faculty Advisor and Clinical Instructor. She later served as a Recruiter and Admissions Counselor before assuming the position of Assistant Dean of Student Services. She assumed additional responsibilities for the recruitment of Louis Stokes Fellows in Community and Social Development. At the Mandel School, she has taught the Field Education Seminar, Social Work in Child Abuse and Family Violence, the Kenya and South Africa Travel and Study Abroad Seminar in the Intensive Weekend, Online and On-Campus program formats H

er primary teaching interests are child abuse and family violence, impact of separation on child development, child sexual abuse, program evaluation and practice intervention in large systems. In addition, she has an interest in the recruitment, support and retention of students with a career interest in the social work profession.
