Donate to the Soad Mansour International Scholarship Fund

The Mandel School is pleased to announce the Soad Mansour International Scholarship Fund, which was founded upon Soad’s retirement from the school last year to help realize her dream of providing a scholarship to international students from developing countries, to provide additional funds above and beyond what an incoming student would normally receive.

A cherished colleague and mentor, Soad Mansour was also an alumna who graduated with her MSSA in 1972. She joined the Mandel School in 1996 as a Field Education Faculty Advisor, then was appointed the first director of the Office of International Affairs after it was established by Dean Darlyne Bailey in 1999. It was a post she held for 17 years, acting as an ambassador, mentor, friend, and advocate for hundreds of international students. She retired in June, 2016.

Prior to joining the Mandel School, Soad founded Towards Employment in 1976 and served as its Executive Director for 20 years, leading it to become a national model of workforce development.

Soad is a member of the Mandel School Hall of Achievement and received a 2016 Centennial Alumni Award in the category of “Distinguished Alumni.” She was also awarded Social Worker of the Year by the NASW Ohio Chapter in 1991 and was presented with the key to the City of Cleveland in recognition of her work at Towards Employment.

“If I tried to enumerate Soad Mansour’s contributions to the Mandel School and Case Western Reserve communities, it would take volumes. Over a period of four decades in the social work profession, Soad enjoyed teaching and advising students, and helping them to see possibilities for themselves and their professional careers,” said Dean Grover “Cleve” Gilmore, praising Soad’s influence on the school.
