Activism and Social Justice at CWRU

Part I: Hear from CWRU alumni who were part of the sit-in on Euclid Avenue in 1970 protesting the ongoing Vietnam War.
Part II: Learn more about CWRU's Social Justice Institute from its co-directors Ayesha Bell Hardaway, JD, and Mark Chupp, PhD (GRS ’03, social welfare). They will share the institute's history and how it is presently involved in local, state and national matters.

Mandel School Lecture: Transforming Ohio’s Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health System – Bringing Research To Practice

Hear from Richard Shepler, director of the Mandel School’s newest Center of Excellence, while earning social work continuing education credits.
The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS), in conjunction with the Departments of Job and Family Services, Medicaid, Youth Services, Developmental Disabilities, and Health and Ohio Family and Children First, developed the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (COE) to assist the state in children’s mental health system transformation efforts. The Center for Innovative Practices at the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, a part of the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, was chosen as the COE.
This webinar will describe two of Ohio’s children’s mental health system transformation initiatives, OhioRISE and the Family First Prevention Services Act. These initiatives are designed to expand the children’s behavioral health continuum of care with the goal of increasing statewide access to services for youth and families. The COE’s role in these efforts is to provide technical assistance, training, professional development, coaching, consultation, evaluation, fidelity monitoring, and continuous quality improvement. The role of universities in workforce development and capacity building will be highlighted. A framework for bridging research to practice will be discussed.

Increasing COVID-19 cases within Northeast Ohio has prompted Case Western Reserve to resume its requirement that masks be worn indoors. In addition, only those who are fully vaccinated (two weeks past their final dose) should attend any campus event. Leaders continue to monitor pandemic developments and may need to adjust health protocols further as circumstances warrant. In-person is subject to change based on COVID-19 guidelines.
