Begun Center Presents at the Tampa Conference 2016

Jeff Kretschmar, PhD, Research Assistant Professor, Richard Shepler, PhD, PCC-S, Center for Innovative Practices (CIP) Director, and CIP Research Associate Michael Fox, MA, PCC, LCDC III, presented on, “Treatment of Youth with Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders,” at the 29th annual Research and Policy Conference: Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult Behavioral Health, also known as the Tampa Conference.

 The presentation provided an overview of current research on youth with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (COD), treatment adaptations to current evidence-based practices and integrated treatment models designed specifically for youth with COD. In addition, cross-system collaboration strategies that support effective treatment for this population will be shared as well as key funding and human resource issues in implementing integrated co-occurring treatment.

The conference is sponsored by the Department of Child and Family Studies at the University of South Florida, in partnership with the Children’s Mental Health Network, the National Wraparound Initiative, the Institute for Translational Research in Adolescent Behavioral Health, and the Institute for Innovation and Implementation at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
