Mandel School Welcomes Returning International Visiting Scholar Dr. Anat Freund

The Mandel School is happy to host International Visiting Scholar Anat Freund, PhD, Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Work from the University of Haifa in Israel.

Returning from her visit as a Faculty Fellow at the Mandel School in 2005, Dr. Freund received her PhD from University of Haifa in 2000 and since then, she has been researching the impact of organizational variables on the quality of work of social workers and their professional performance. Comparing privatized and public welfare organizations in relation to work attitudes, organizational commitment, organizational reputation, civilian behavior in the organization and organizational culture. She, also,  studies leadership and management in welfare organizations.

Dr. Freund has examined changes that take place in welfare organizations in recent years including the influence of the change and its implications on practice imperative. She, also, researches unconscious processes in organizations, e.g. conflict management and decision making.

Additionally, she  is actively involved in the life of the Social Work School participating in the University of Haifa’s committees, promoting the subject of community and organizational social work in research and teaching. In recent years, she has been involved in topics relating to the Haredi (Jewish ultra-Orthodox) community in general, and social work and welfare organizations in the Haredi community in particular. Specifically, researching the encounter of Haredi and non-Haredi social workers with Haredi clients, and attitudes in the Haredi community toward medical and psychological treatment. This is part of her general research on conservative closed communities, such as Arab society in Israel.

Dr. Freund stresses the importance of teaching BA and MA students and supervising MA and PhD students. Throughout the years, since she has been in this field, there have been positive changes made towards the perception of students in the macro field of social work and in field studies.

We’re happy to have her on board and hope you’ll join us for a special lecture from Dr. Freund, “Academia in Israel: A Multicultural Perspective” on  Wednesday, November 15 at 1:00pm in Mandel School room #236 for 1 PD hour.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to bring their lunch and hear from Dr. Freund as she discusses academic life, research, and community in Israel through a multicultural lens.
