Tyrone Hamler

Tyrone received his BSW and MSW from the University of Cincinnati and has been a licensed social worker in the state of Ohio since 2008. He earned his MSW in 2009 with a specialization in Health and Aging. His research interests are in health equity in kidney disease, medical decision-making, medical social work practice, chronic illness, and aging. He spent over seven years in direct practice in medical social work and mental health case management. Currently, Tyrone conducts and leads his own funded dissertation research at University Hospitals Cleveland concerning late stage kidney disease, decision-making uncertainty and its relationship to psychosocial factors among older African American adults. He has taught a variety of BSW and MSW courses and has served as a TA for several doctoral courses. His experiences working with individuals with chronic illnesses have been informed by social determinants of health frameworks and the intersections of race, gender, and class while navigating the health care system.
