Prior to her work with the Begun Center, Wendy worked with Cuyahoga County’s Department of Children and Family Services coordinating various programs and grants pertaining to child well-being and adoption.
Wendy previously served as Deputy Press Secretary for the City of Cleveland under Mayor Jane Campbell and was responsible for media relations and creating public campaigns which include economic development, legal, technology, real estate development, and crisis communications.
Q: Why is your work at the Begun Center important to you, to our community, and to the world? Although my role is more indirect compared to the researchers and trainers themselves, I believe our work is imperative to understanding violence and helping to reduce the instance and severity of it and the trauma it creates in people’s lives. We are on the front lines of so many relevant issues happening in our world today…school shootings, opioid overdoses, police interactions, etc. and have become experts in our field for our local and national partners.
Q: What is a cause about which you are particularly passionate? I’m passionate about bringing awareness to mental health and reducing the stigma so it can be openly discussed just like any physical/medical condition. I’m also passionate about the treatment of animals and encouraging adoption of shelter pets and increasing restrictions on puppy mills.
