We are committed to helping students further develop in the areas of social and emotional competence, purpose and intentionality, cultural and human appreciation, community engagement and problem solving. Each of these learning domains is described in more detail below. We have also summarized this information for you to download as a printable one-page table.

Social and Emotional Competence

These programs and services are designed to help students:

  • Explore their identity and their identity in the context of their environment
  • Learn techniques for managing emotions and resolving conflict
  • Enhance awareness of their impact on others
  • Recognize the extent to which others influence their decisions
  • Understand the importance of taking responsibility for their actions
  • Reflect on the efficacy of their behavior on their intended outcomes and make adjustments as necessary

As a result of participating in our programs and services, students will be able to demonstrate social and emotional competence through self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and healthy relationships.

Purpose and Intentionality

These programs and services are designed to help students:

  • Develop a sense of purpose and identify goals for reaching their personal vision
  • Identify opportunities that align with their personal vision
  • Determine how their relationships and experiences contribute to their greater purpose

As a result of participating in our programs and services, students will identify how their sense of purpose has been shaped by their knowledge, ideas, values, strengths and experiences.

Cultural and Human Appreciation

These programs and services are designed to help students:

  • Discover, claim, and affirm their personal identities, narratives, and group memberships
  • Explore and appreciate the identities, histories, narratives, and collective experiences of others
  • Enhance their understanding of and respect for human dignity
  • Acknowledge biases within themselves and others

As a result of participating in our programs and services, students will demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for cultural and human differences/similarities including social responsibility, respect, global perspective, and civic mindfulness.

Community Engagement

These programs and services are designed to:

  • Explore their on- and off-campus communities
  • Discover their roles and responsibilities within their communities
  • Engage and collaborate with their communities

As a result of participating in our programs and services, students will be able to describe how they have positively impacted their community.

Problem Solving

These programs and services are designed to help students:

  • Anticipate problems and identify potential solutions
  • Develop and implement a plan for addressing and resolving problems
  • Evaluate their problem solving strategies

As a result of participating in our programs and services, students will apply their knowledge, values, ideas, strengths, and experiences to solve problems.
