Joining the Collegiate Recovery Community

When students become a member of our Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), they join other students in their commitment to recovery and in their efforts to excel in scholarshippersonal growthsocial responsibility, and ethical leadership.

Students will work with a counselor at the University Counseling Service to develop a personal recovery & wellness plan for each semester they are enrolled. A sample plan may include:

Commitment to Recovery

  • Regular attendance at PRS sponsored Recovery Groups on campus
  • Residing at Recovery House
  • Attending community-based 12 Step Groups
  • Periodic drug screenings
  • Attend local or regional recovery-based retreats

Excellence in Scholarship

  • Regularly attend all classes
  • Seek tutoring
  • Periodically meet with faculty / university advisors
  • Develop good study skills and habits
  • Limit distractions to academic achievement, e.g., online games
  • Enroll in elective recovery themed courses
  • Assist faculty conducting research in health-related areas, especially in health promotion or prevention of addiction

Personal Growth

  • Participate in weekly individual or group counseling sessions at the University Counseling Services
  • Keep a journal or blog with others in recovery
  • Seek personal feedback from peers, friends and family to learn more about yourself and your relationships
  • Develop a personal fitness / wellness plan

Social Responsibility

  • Volunteer to help others on campus, e.g., giving talks to student groups about recovery
  • Participate in university sponsored community engagement activities in the Cleveland area
  • Speak to local school students about the value of education and commitment to personal values

Ethical Leadership

  • Become a student leader by joining student government
  • Join a student organization and work collaboratively with other groups
  • Volunteer as a student member of the University Academic Integrity Board
