The CWRU Office for Sustainability recently announced its third annual Sustainability Champion Award winners.
Nominations of award winners were provided by the Student Sustainability Council, Staff Advisory Council and the greater CWRU campus community. Award winners were chosen based on their impact on the campus community in regards to sustainability. The Office for Sustainability annually awards at least one student, one staff member and one faculty member the honor.
Awards were presented at the Green Bag Lunch on April 26.
Winners were:
Student: Grace Cammarn - Grace works to shift CWRU's student culture to better embrace sustainability principles and lives a exemplary green lifestyle. She has served as in the Student Sustainability Council as past Chair and past PR Director. Grace has worked for the Office for Sustainability as a SURES researcher for CWRU's Greenhouse Gas Inventory for FY2015 as well as student worker, crafting a Benchmarking and Best Practices Report. Grace is a graduating senior with a Statistics and Environmental Studies major with a Spanish minor from Wadsworth, Ohio. Upon graduation, she will work as a Data Analyst with Progressive Insurance and will be working on her Masters in Urban Planning and Development from Cleveland State University.
Staff: Brian Gray - Brian has been an instrumental leader for CWRU’s campus garden. He has coordinated annual plantings, donations of plants and seeds, and volunteers. Additionally, he organizes the donation of harvested produce to local food pantries. About his award, Brian says, "I am honored to receive such an award from peers at CWRU. I accept this award on behalf of all those who have helped Garden@Case. It is the group effort of the Case community that shows urban gardening has great benefits." Brian is the Team Leader of Research Services at Kelvin Smith Library and a Librarian of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Macromolecular Science & Engineering as well as and Chair of the Garden@Case. Faculty: Dr. Narcisz Fejes - Narcisz has been instrumental to plan and facilitate CWRU’s annual Food Week in April. She provides global and local food systems inspiration and education to students and the CWRU community. Dr. Fejes is a SAGES professor in the CWRU College of Arts and Sciences. Her classes focus on She is also the faculty advisor of CWRU’s Food Recovery Network. Narcisz is the co-editor of the recent book Queer Visibility in Post-socialist Cultures with Andrea P. Balogh.
