Think Big Announces Outcomes & Next Steps

Dear Members of the CWRU Community:

Over the past semester we’ve engaged in a strategic planning process unlike any other—in true Case Western Reserve fashion—and we’ve positioned ourselves to be a greater university.

After intense involvement and input from the campus community, the Think Big strategic planning team, our Thinkers and our administration have articulated a vision and four pathways that will lead us to a place where we can see ourselves as ONE CWRU, guided by our North Star:

Case Western Reserve is
a high-impact research university
that aspires to be a community
where humanity, science & technology meet
to create a just and thriving world.

As I introduced at the May 3 Seed Sprint Report Out, this notion of ONE CWRU is found in a place with ancient roots. A common meeting space defined by debate, democracy, philosophy and incredible forward movement in our understanding of the human condition. Agora captures the essence of what it means to have humanity, science and technology meet. We are the CWRU Agora. We are pioneers of Agora Academics.

To lead us to this place and guide us to our North Star, our team has identified four pathways that will steer decision-making and prioritization.

These pathways are:

Over the summer we will seek input on these pathways and develop associated metrics. We are also keenly aware that any good plan needs to be backed by tangible support, and we are working diligently to identify funding opportunities in philanthropy, government and our existing resources.

At the same time, we want to hear from you. Please review the pathways at the links above and tell us: What types of activities, programs and initiatives would you like to see on these pathways?

We look forward to hearing your feedback and welcoming you back to campus this fall as we delve into the future of Agora Academics at CWRU. We invite you to join us on Aug. 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Thwing Center ballroom as we officially kick off the new academic year and a new North Star. See you there!

Sincerely,

Ben Vinson III
